5’nizza (jokingly distorted „пятница” – „Friday” in Russian) is a legendary Ukrainian duo from Kharkiv. The members are Sergey Babkin and Andrey „Sun” Zaporozhets and they met in 1995.
Despite the fact that Zaporozhets was inspired by soul and hip-hop, while Babkin followed rock music, they found common ground, and by 2000, started writing songs together.
Their easygoing, laid-back tunes can be described as a mixture of reggae, rap and easter-soul music with some jazz and rock influences, played on one acoustic guitar, break-beat rhythms (using human beatbox only) and singing/rapping with subtly hidden sense, sometimes pretty humorous though.
The duo’s demo 'Unplugged’ which featured Bob Marley’s 'Jammin’ surfaced in 2002 was recorded for only $30, without overdubs, and quickly spread unofficially by word of mouth. The demo was heavily bootlegged across Eastern and Middle Europe: in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and others.
The due had disbanded in 2007 and reunited in 2015 for an European Tour and recorded new album 'Ku’.
After Russian invasion of Ukraine Zaporozhets and Babkin touring worldwide with „Help for Ukraine” tour.
